East Dorset comprises both very rural areas and medium-sized market towns. The locality has a number of characteristics that support health and wellbeing including good quality natural environments and high levels of employment. East Dorset has an older population than that of Dorset overall, having one of the highest proportions of those aged 65-69, 70-74 and 80 and over of all 13 localities. The proportions of both older people living alone and older people in income deprivation are lower than in any other Dorset locality.
